What’s the law on tarping loads?

law on tarping loads?Does it matter what the “stuff” is?

If I take stuff to the dump, I know I’m suppose to tarp. But what if I’m not going to the dump? Does it matter what the “stuff” is? Dirt? Gravel? Boxes? Furniture? And is there a tarping law for dump trucks?

If you are hauling any kind of aggregate or dirt, it has to be tarped if it can be seen over the rim of the bed of the truck. Yard waste is also required to be covered. Furniture, garbage, etc. is not required, and there is only a violation when something falls off. Same with a dump truck: If you can see the mound (anything higher than the rim of the bed), it must be covered so it can’t blow off and damage or injure anyone.

Tarps are used to protect?

Tarps are used to protect a load against the elements as well as road debris and animals. However, tarps are also about improving highway safety. A high-quality Dumpster tarp enhances safety by improving the profile of a load and helping to keep that load securely in place. Unsecured loads create another problem. From the debris comes a trail of litter along the nation’s roadways from individuals and companies hauling trash and materials from homes, construction sites and other locations. The cost to taxpayers nationwide totals $11.5 billion dollars spent each year for litter removal and clean-up.

In the Dumpster business, it is imperative to have secure loads whether you’re moving debris or transporting products. It’s the responsibility of the driver to ensure that whatever he or she is transporting is securely loaded and will not come loose during transport. This is true for anything from a full 18-wheeler to a pickup truck.

At Rent-A-dumpster , we strive to be quick and efficient to maintain productivity and to accommodate all of our customers. As the customer, there are steps that you can take while loading the dumpster so that when we arrive at your property, we can secure it and be on our way.

Make Sure Dumpster Door is Shut Properly Even though it’s our driver’s responsibility to make sure the door is shut and locked before they load the dumpster onto the truck, our customers must make sure that they close the door properly as they fill up the dumpster. Failure to do so could cause the debris in the dumpster to keep the door from closing. If this is the case, the customer is responsible for reloading the debris until we can close the door. Fees may apply.
